Today is also the birthday of talented 50s actress/entertainer Jayne Mansfield who was born in 1933 and who died tragically in 1967:(    My friend actress/artist Diana Herbert appeared on Broadway with Jayne in the play "Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter", the vehicle that shot Jayne to fame and remembers her as friendly, smart, professional, always smiling and a very quick study.  Ironically the play was a put on about Marilyn Monroe, someone Jayne really admired and emulated.  Diana and her sister writer Pamela Chais were aquainted with Marilyn as their father F. Hugh Herbert directed her in "Scudda Hoo Scudda Hay"  the film which she had her very first lines.  Jayne didn't know about the Herbert/Monroe connection but I'm sure had she there would have been alot of interest and questions about her career idol.

Yesterday I was filmed and took part in a new documentary about Marilyn Monroe at the home of Rick Carl in Burbank.  It was a pleasure to meet Actress/Magician Claudia Moriarty aka "Lady C" who is the niece of the late adorable Evelyn Moriarty who was Marilyn's stand in and friend for her last 3 films.  A beautiful video dedication about Evelyn was shown called "All About Evelyn"  which was very cool and very well done.  We all loved Evelyn...  she was a lovely, unique, smart and a very interesting woman who began her career as a glamorous Earl Carroll showgirl. She is missed by all.   Director George Cukor took a special interest in her at this stage of her career and years later hired her to work for Marilyn.  Evelyn also stood in for Barbara Eden and Ann Margret. "Girls with body" I used to say.  About 11 years ago at a Marilyn Remembered meeting at the home of Greg Schreiner after years of knowing her  Evelyn suddenly announced  "My friends Tanya Sumova and Judy Woodbury knew Marilyn too"  which led to meeting them and hearing their interesting stories about MM.  I became great friends with Tanya and when I got a part in a Jason Moran film short called "Evil Old Lady" I recruited Tanya to play my Mother and she was great.... and so was I as her mentally unbalanced son Sonny... (he said modestly...ha ha ha ha HA!)
The new MM documentary is being filmed by Laurent Morlet.....  details tba soon....  HH(:

Last  February 4th I attended  Colombian Avant-Garde Animation at USC's Eileen Norris Cinema Theatre and had a great evening enjoying the animated works of Carlos Santa, Juan Camilo Gonzalez, Cecilia Traslavina and Diana Menestrey.  Carlos Santos kindly gifted me with his dvd after at the reception which includes "The Passenger of the Night" which is incredible.  In the photo above you can see a  bookmark for his enjoyable creative work in my pocket.  HH(:
